The Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California, named a female porcupine after Betty White, one of its devoted patrons. They asked White to name the male porcupine, and she chose the name Allen, after her late husband, Allen Ludden. White, who passed away at 99, visited the center two to three times a year, spending time with the porcupines by feeding and petting them. The porcupines were part of a rescue program aimed at saving the species from extinction, and the center also cares for injured and abandoned exotic animals.
